Greetings

First, I would like to thank Psycgirl and EcoGeoFemme allowing me to contribute to this blog. I hope I can provide some useful insight.

As some of you may know, I am a former attorney. I ran my own private practice for five years. One my areas of practice was bankruptcy. Sadly, I have seen many well-intending people making the painful decision to declare bankruptcy. I have also seen how those who engage in frivolous and irresponsible spending have abused the bankruptcy system, which in my opinion, has led to the changes in the bankruptcy law that occurred in 2006.

Since leave the law world for the academic, I began teaching Business law to undergraduate business majors, as well as Critical Thinking and writing courses. I began to hear students talk about how they spend money, their misconceptions about money and how many college students have no clue how to budget, save or even understand credit. Many college and graduate students are finding themselves financial trouble because no one ever explained how credit works.

Let's face it. No one "teaches" one about managing money or credit. We may have followed what our parents did, which may not have been the best advice. We may have become victim to the numerous credit card offers that plague college campuses. We may have just fell on hard times and had to rely on our credit card to get out of a jam, only to be in a bigger hole. Whatever the reason...financial problems have become quite an epidemic.

So, I decided that I would include a financial responsibility lecture as part of my freshman critical thinking course. In the past, I have conducted a bankruptcy lecture in my Business law classes which has been met with rave review. My mission is to help those understand money and finance with my professional knowledge and personal experience

I hope I can provide some useful knowledge to you as well!

Cheers.
